Family-owned shipping company Furetank is making a shift in management, where Björn Stignor steps into the CEO position from an international career in the Stena sphere. Former CEO Lars Höglund continues as chairman of the board, focusing on Furetank’s expansive newbuilding programme and other engagements in shipping industry and policy.

Yvonne Höglund is a certified HR specialist and the latest member of Furetank’s owner family to step into the company. She has taken on the role as HR director, bringing experience from many years in retail and other industry segments.

Furetank adds another two Vinga vessels to the order line, marking a milestone for the shipping company. Upon delivery, Furetank’s fleet will consist entirely of environmentally proven, top standard vessels with an average age of two years. ”We did our homework. This development towards sustainability has been an amazing journey”, says CEO Lars Höglund.

Furetank CEO Lars Höglund was invited to the Swedish parliament to emphasize the importance of Swedish shipping in times of crisis. Together with the Swedish shipowners’ Association and unions he demanded political action to invigorate an industry which is internationally disfavoured by national legislation.

Four of Furetank’s employees take turns overseeing the construction of eleven Vinga vessels in the upcoming years. We talked to Mikael Johansson and Joakim Skottborn about the challenges, joys and best practices in quality assuring the works of a Chinese shipyard.

Furetank and Algoma Central Corporation expand the FureBear joint venture with two additional vessel orders, bringing the total newbuild order to ten intermediate product tankers to trade in Northern Europe. The two companies continue to position FureBear to increase fleet capacity to expand into new markets and meet future demand for biofuels transportation.

Reducing the methane slip is a vital challenge in taking LNG-fueled ships towards zero greenhouse gas emissions. Now the Finnish marine technology supplier Wärtsilä and Swedish shipping company Furetank are co-developing and testing two technologies showing the potential to halve the methane slip.

Furetank has converted its former offices on Donsö outside Gothenburg into a state-of-the-art maritime educational center, to increase the access to competent onboard personnel.
