2024

Next Generation

The next generation of Höglunds enters the company as Jonatan Höglund takes over as Vice President and Yvonne Höglund starts her journey as HR manager. Victoria Höglund enters the role of Vessel Operator.

2023

More ships

During the Donsö Shipping Meet in August, a contract is signed for an additional two ships in the Vinga series for FureBear AB. In December, Furetank Rederi AB orders two more ships in the Vinga series.

2022

New offices

In December 2022 Furetank consolidated all on-shore activities into new offices at Hinsholmen in western Gothenburg. Bringing together technical, crewing, finance and commercial operations builds a robust company for the future and enables the delivery of even better services to our customers.
2022

Fure Vinga slipped her moorings

In June, FURE VINGA was moored in central London, hosting an event with 170 IMO delegates gathered to advance global restrictions of greenhouse gas emissions. Furetank received a lot of positive international attention; a confirmation that we are heading the right direction in our environmental work.

2022

17 vessels

2022 was an eventful year for Furetank. Together with the Canadian shipping company Algoma Central Corporation the joint venture FureBear was formed and eight further vessels in the successful VINGA series were ordered. This took the series to a total of 17 vessels.

2018

VINGA series

Starting in 2018, the first vessels in the game-changing VINGA series were delivered from the China Merchants Jinling shipyard, replacing older ships. They were designed for maximum efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and minimal environmental impact with dual-fuel capability for LNG/LBG or gasoil, a battery hybrid solution and all equipment needed for shore power.

The VINGA sisters scored the best EEDI value in their segment globally, meaning that they were the most energy efficient vessels to date according to the International Maritime Organization, IMO. Also, they emit extensively less CO2, sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxide and hazardous particles than previous generations of ships.

2016

FURE WEST

An environmental milestone was the 2016 conversion of FURE WEST to dual-fuel, primarily using the cleaner alternative LNG. This was a challenging project, but in addition to the successful execution it gave us valuable experiences when deciding on the next generation of vessels – the VINGA-series.
2012-2013

A New Chapter in Chartering

In the span of 2012-2013, Furetank embarked on a strategic initiative, establishing our in-house chartering division, Furetank Chartering AB. This marked the beginning of a new era for us, enhancing our service offerings and operational flexibility. In a significant move towards collaboration and strengthening our market position, we joined forces with Thun Tankers AB to create the Gothia Tanker Alliance, setting the stage for enhanced efficiency and broader service capabilities in the tanker shipping sector.

2005

Winds of Change and Expansion

2005 was a year of dynamic expansion and transformation for Furetank, as we welcomed two new vessels, Fure Sun and Fure Star, into our fleet, significantly enhancing our operational capabilities. This period of growth was also marked by strategic shifts, including the sale of our chartering division, Nordtank Shipping, to Broströms, signaling a focused direction towards our core maritime services.

2002

Expansion and a New Home

In 2002, Furetank embarked on a significant chapter of growth, expanding our team to meet the demands of our evolving operations. This pivotal year marked the decision to establish a new office, strategically located in the heart of Donsö's bustling port, cementing our presence at the center of maritime activity.

1996

Furenäs

As customer focus shifted towards somewhat larger vessels, Furetank ordered FURENÄS (12.925 dwt) in 1996.

1989-1990

First vessel

The construction of the vessel FUREVIK in 1989-90 was a landmark for Furetank. The experience of the whole Höglund family was called upon in a project which marked out Furetank as a modern family operator with a fleet of consistently high quality. The company’s recent history can be described as a conscious expansion, with vessel quality as the guiding star.
1874

Ragnar af Donso

Since the 1700s, the family’s forefathers have been captains, owners and partowners of a large number of ships with Donsö as their homeport. One of them was the schooner ”Ragnar af Donso”, built in 1874.
1700s

Fore fathers

Shipping culture has affected life for centuries on the small island of Donsö in Gothenburg’s southern archipelago, the home of Furetank. The active owners in the group today are in many ways typical of the strong tradition of seamanship which has existed on the island for many generations.
