After the successful introduction of the FUREVIK the customers focused on somewhat larger vessels and in 1996 Furetank ordered FURENÄS (12.925 tdw), which vessel represented Furetank until 2016. The fleet expanded further in 2001 through the purchase of FURE STAR and FURE SUN. In 2002 Furetank turned to Chinese shipyard Shanghai Edward Shipbuilding with an order for two newbuildings of 17.500 dwt each, later to become FURE NORD and FURE WEST.
In 2009 a new chartering operation was established in Holbaek, Denmark and in 2012 Gothia Tanker Alliance was introduced, now representing close to 40 vessels in sizes between 6.000 – 37.000 dwt.
FURENÄS, FURE STAR and FURE SUN were sold 2014-2016 and will – with start in 2018 – be replaced by 3 wholly owned newbuildings each of 16.300 dwt/20.000m3, ordered from AVIC DINGHENG SHIPBUILDING. These environment friendly vessels will all be dual-fuel (LNG) and built to latest known requirements. No doubt, Furetank continues to be a leader in developing modern intermediate product and chemical tankers
